Befriend Me! (Unless You're the Killer!)

The box was metal, stainless steel, wrapped in plastic.

The key’s prongs were shaped like a “W” and there was a little tag on it that said “Why Begins with W.”

The police here in Lynchburg were not interested when we called them.  We explained that they should be interested in what the journals talked about, because of the crimes mentioned in them, but they just ignored us.  So we took the handwritten journals to a book agent.  He asked us to transcribe them, as they were rather messy looking.  There were side notes and scratched out phrases, irritating inserts and commentary in the margins.  So we spent our summer and went through the laborious process of typing them into my computer.  The agent decided to set us up with a small printer so we could just run with it.  And now there’s no looking back – only forward.  We have many more pages to transcribe and try to make sense of – but we got as far as we got – and there’s clearly a story here.  And now you can read all about it.
